1. The last paragraph of the pages of the section we had to read, starting with, Alas, Poor feminism, is the biggest example that i’ve read as to what essential feminism requires. Gay states that ” These articles make it seem like there is, in fact, a right way to be a woman and a wrong way to be a woman.” She goes on to say that ” And the standard appears to be ever changing and unachievable.” This to me, makes it seem that there is no one right way to be an essential feminist. If the requirements keep changing and wont stop changing then how will any woman know what is needed to be a good feminist and what needs to be done to be a bad one. This to me is a or thinking moment because the person trying to achieve the role of an essential feminist does not know solidly what is needed to succeed at this role.

3. The second paragraph of the text speaks out to me the most on whats piled up the most on the shoulders of women. Gay speaks about all the stereotypes women in todays society face. Some being “Good women bear children and stay home to raise them without complaint.” and “Good women are charming, polite, and unobtrusive.” They have all of these expectations placed on them and if they fall out of line then they are not performing our worlds perceived role of being a proper woman.
