I was able to learn and understand this learning outcome by being able to work with my peers and improve upon ideas and claims within our essays. I believe that as a group, it takes the work of everyone together to be able to make improvements that individuals can themselves work on. Editing a peer’s essay is a way to provide positive feedback to them and doing your best to edit their essay in the best way possible. As a writer, I focused on the claims and sentences that were important in my peer’s essay, such as the main ideas and topic points. I also pointed out their thesis as this is an important part to their essay, and being able to mention the main idea of the whole essay. For example, below I have attached some of my positive comments to my peers. I tried my best to give the best feedback with every peer, improving my comments as the year went on. I made sure to focus on the parts of my peer’s essay that were confusing, and I think that asking questions to my peers allowed them to pick up on an idea that was lost or missing within the text. I think over the year I have only gotten better at being able to integrate the ideas of other’s work and my own.
